Like property owners of any kind, damage from hurricanes like Katrina and Rita can wreak havoc on 1031 exchange investors. The first concern in these situations, of course, is for the personal safety of family, friends and colleagues, but as anyone who has experienced a serious hurricane or similar natural event can tell you, once the danger has passed it’s time to clean up the mess, both literal and figurative.
